Power Generator of SR Motors Suggested for EVs and electric bikes

Taiyo Denki Engineering Co., Ltd. (Kawasaki City Saiwai Ward, President Kenji lmanishi, 044-281-7470) has developed “SR Motor Generator (MG)” that gives generating capacity to SR (switched reluctance) motors that do not use permanent magnets. The patented technology of a partner company is adopted to SR motors that does not use magnets. In addition, it can maintain power generation efficiency even in high temperature conditions. It will propose to a wide range of fields centered on electric vehicles (EVs) and electric bikes.

The price of SR motors is estimated individually. For the time being, it accepts orders individually, and it aims to acquire mass production projects. It will put the business on track and promote sales activities to achieve 50 units a month by 2020.

SR motors adopt the control technology that realize a highly efficient power generation function without using permanent magnets, which was developed by Leagic (Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture) that handles control technology. The technology has already been granted a domestic patent, and a patent is pending in the United States.

The technology uses a unique mechanism to convert the rotational energy of the motor into electrical energy and return it to the motor’s power supply. In the regeneration operation, because the power generation control is performed by a simple circuit, the regeneration efficiency is improved, energy saving of the motor can be achieved, and the heat resistance is also enhanced.

It is difficult for conventional SR motors to use as generators, and its use is limit ed. It accepts orders in the range of 10 to 30,000 watts of SRMG output.

Mr. Imanishi says “We can offer SRMG about 20% cheaper than the servomotors, which are being introduced to EVs, because the  internal  structure  1s simple and no magnets are needed.” In addition to receiving inquirei· s from 50-60 car manufacturers and electric bike manufacturers in and outside Japan, it says that flying robot (drone) manufacturers also have an interest It is seeking new product applications to construct sales channels.
